Intel confirmed the rumors that its next-generation processors will be named Intel Core i7 and  will start production in the fourth quarter.

The new Intel Core i7 CPU’s will be used in high end desktop computers, with a black label version for the highest-end “Extreme Edition” which will probably boast extra features like unlocked multiplier for improved overclocking headroom. The processors will contain two to eight cores along with a 4-instruction-wide ISA, two-way simultaneous multi-threading and a new 8MB shared level 3 cache.

Intel will be talking about their Nehalem processors and  Larrabee graphics card at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco California on August 19.
