OpenSSH 5.1 Released

OpenSSH is a set of FREE computer programs providing encrypted communication sessions over a computer network using the ssh protocol. OpenSSH allows telnet, rlogin and FTP users to encrypt all traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other attacks.

OpenSSH server and client version 5.1 has just been released and available for download.

Some notable features are:

  • Introduce experimental SSH Fingerprint ASCII Visualisation to ssh(1) and ssh-keygen(1).
  • sshd now support CIDR address/masklen matching.
  • Added an extended test mode (-T) to sshd(8) to request that it write its effective configuration to stdout and exit.
  • ssh(1) now prints the number of bytes transferred and the overall connection throughput for SSH protocol 2 sessions when in verbose mode.
  • Added a MaxSessions option to sshd_config(5) to allow control of the number of multiplexed sessions supported over a single TCP connection.

Asus M571 USB flash drive

At first look, the Asus M571 USB flash drive looks like an ordinary USB flash drive, but if you will inspect it closer, you will realize that it is actually a USB flash drive with a wireless mouse included.

The included mouse has a scroll wheel and a magnetic locking mechanism that connects the transmitter for charging functions. However, it looks like you are going to have a hard time using the mouse because of its thin design. Nonetheless, I believe the mouse is still somewhat useful during emergency situations, like when your laptop’s touchpad is malfunctioning.

To use the MS71 as a mouse, just detach its base and plug it into your computer’s USB port to act as the mouse transmitter and the other part is to act as the wireless laser mouse with a scroll wheel.

Pricing and capacity is still unknown as of posting time.

The infamous computer hacker group Cult of the Dead Cow (CDC), best known for creating the Back Orifice some 10 years ago has released a software tool which can make Google hacking a little easier for security professionals and criminals. The open-source software called Goolag lets hackers use the Google search engine to scan websites for security flaws. The software is based on work done by a hacker using the name “Johnny I Hack Stuff”.

So if you are a website operator or a System Administrator, you might want to check your server(s) for vulnerabilities using this tool before hackers use your server(s) for crime or mischief.

Comodo Memory Firewall is a buffer overflow detection and prevention software which provides the ultimate defense against one of the most serious and common attack types on the Internet - the buffer overflow attack.

Comodo Memory Firewall protects against data theft, computer crashes and system damage by preventing most types of buffer overflow attacks. This type of attack occurs when a malicious program or script deliberately sends more data to its memory buffer than the buffer can handle. It is at this point that a successful attack can create a back door to the system though which a hacker can gain access. The goal of most attacks is to install malware onto the compromised PC whereby the hacker can reformat the hard drive, steal sensitive user information, or even install programs that transform the machine into a Zombie PC.

The product is aimed for system administrators as well as desktop users to protect their systems and it willl efficiently detect all the suspicious code executions in the stack or the heap portions of the memory.

Comodo Memory Firewall detects the following types of attack:

  • Detection of Buffer Overflows which occur in the STACK memory
  • Detection of Buffer Overflows which occur in the HEAP memory
  • Detection of ret2libc attacks
  • Detection of corrupted/bad SEH Chains

System Requirements

Operating System

  • Windows Vista (Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions)
  • Windows XP (Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions)
  • Windows Server 2003 SP1 (32 bit and 64 bit versions)

Hardware:
